The Freshmen Boys soccer team ended out the season with a 3-0 loss on Monday against Bridgewater Raynham and a 4-3 loss yesterday afternoon against Oliver Ames.
Monday’s game was kind of a fluke game due to the playing conditions. By the time the second have began the field was 75% mud, 20% grass and 5% water. These playing conditions had a very negative effect on our passing and moving style of play. We started to make adjustments to the field and the momentum started to go in our favor but shortly after the game was ended by the referee with about 20 minutes left in the game due to the condition of the field.
Yesterday’s game was an absolute heartbreaker. We had a rough start to the game going down 2-0 very early in the game. Shortly after going down by 2 goals Mike Pizzi answered with a great shot from distance to make the game 2-1. Then, right before half time, Mike Pizzi pulled off a ridiculous overhead volley to tie the game. Momentum clearly shifted to our side and about 10 minutes into the second half Nate Almeida showed great offensive skill on the left side of the field and tucked home the 3rd goal of the match. Unfortunately holding on to that one goal lead was a tall task. We had our chances to score and make it a 4-2 game but we couldn’t find a way to make it happen. Shortly after a few good scoring chances, Oliver Ames tied the game up 3-3. Literally with only seconds left in the game Oliver Ames was awarded a free kick from about 30 yards out, and they did not waste the opportunity. After they scored and made it 4-3 we only had enough time to set the ball up at midfield.
It was definitely a tough couple of losses to end the year but it does not define the season we had. We had a great time coaching you guys this year and there is a very bright future for all of you in this soccer program. Hopefully you all learned valuable skills that you can continue to improve on and along the way made some new friends. Remember soccer is a sport, not a job (for now) and you’re supposed to have fun when you play, as you all continue to play remember to enjoy yourselves.
Make sure you all thank your parents for supporting us all year, having team dinners for everyone and most importantly picking you up from practice and games everyday after school. Thank you parents!
