More Thank You's...
I would like to add some special Thank You's that weren't posted earlier:
Freshmen Coaches Bob Healy & Dick Cole for their outstanding efforts to build this soccer program through outstanding coaching and skill work at the freshmen level. It's been a great 3 years working with both of you!
Jv Coach Ralph Blight for his 9 years of dedication to the program, his determination to see this program succeed, and preparing those Jv players for a Varsity position. Most importantly to me, his unwavering friendship and support throughout the years.
Volunteer Coaches Jordan Blight & Jason Malloy for giving us their time and talents to help our programs succeed. It's nice to see former players giving back to the program.
The Captains: Nate, Drew, Antonio who's leadership this year helped get us back to the tournament.
The Almeida Family for the Cookout, Team Dinners, running the concession stand, and support of the program over the years.
Parents for your help with the concession stand, tailgate, support of your son and our program, and many kind words of encouragement this year. You do make a difference!
Dave Floeck for his guidance, support of the program, and unwavering friendship. You made my journey rewarding.
Sue Moss for the thousands of pictures taken during the years, award certificates, and senior award letters.
Bob Rodgers, athletic director for announcing at the home games and his great support of our program throughout this year.
Lexie Watkins, trainer for giving us great care and support in our times of need.

All Star Game Result
The Keenan Division defeated the Fisher Division 4 - 3. Our 3 All-Stars, Capt. Antonio Centeio, Capt. Nate Almeida, and Brian McGahan had an outstanding game. What a thrill it was to see these 3 guys match the play of our former opponents from Duxbury, Silver Lake, Hingham, and Quincy. This was a night they won't forget.
Congratulation guys on a job well done!

"This is it"
This is a blog I wish I didn't have to post. The Panther Soccer Season has come to a close. The Panthers lost a tough one to Pembroke Tuesday night. Pembroke definitely improved their game since the last time we saw them and they did a good job scouting us at CM. We were nervous but I think we also had tired legs, we've played 6 games in 11 days. Thank you to the fans that supported us last night, we truly appreciate you being there.
Our last meeting together after the game was a tough one. The seniors 4 year journey and my 36th in the program have come to an end. I know they will remember the tremendous strides we made this year. How we exceeded others expectations of us and what we could do. We will remember the smiles, monster mini-golf, the exciting wins, ties, close games, the support of our parents and fans, our tournament win over CM, and the tears we shed together on that last bus ride home..... I am so proud of this group of players and how they made my last year special. A very heart felt Thank You to all.

Panthers defeat Catholic Memorial in State Tournament!
The Panthers battled the elements and Catholic Memorial to gain their 1st tournament win since 2009! A slushy field and cold weather didn't keep the Panthers from their mission to succeed.
After 80 minutes of regulation with the Panthers having opportunities to score and 20 minutes of sudden death/golden goal overtime, it all came down to penalty kicks. The Panthers chose to shoot 1st and make CM chase them. Antonio Centeio and Gabe De Oliviera put the Panthers up 2 - 1. Tom McGahan gave us a 3 - 1 advantage and Kevin Emery gave us the game winner in the 6th round to seal the deal at 4 - 3. What an exciting finish to an exciting game. Conor Keane made some great saves during the game and in the shootout! The defensive unit of Nate Almeida, Drew Alexopoulos, Brian Barry, & Kevin Emery worked hard to minimize shots during the game. Central midfielders Antonio, Gabe, Ryan Kelly, and David Sanchez worked hard to get balls to our forwards. Tom Chmura and Nick Haley certainly kept the CM defense on their toes with numerous threats during overtime. Overall, everyone on the field played a big part in this tournament win.
Now we focus on Pembroke who we will play for the 3rd time this year. Game time is 6pm at Pembroke on Tuesday Nov. 4th. We would like to get as many fans there as possible to help us pull out another tournament victory!!

Varsity ties Duxbury = Tournament Bound
The Panthers played a tremendous defensive battle against Duxbury to gain a 0 - 0 tie which put the Panthers in the state tournament. Defense worked hard to deny Duxbury a goal while offense keep Duxbury's defense on their toes. Conor Keane made some big saves in net to keep us in this game. Sweeper Nate Almeida & Stopper Kevin Emery and Ryan Kelly also played well for the Panthers. Realistically I could name every single player becasuse they all made this night happen. This was the biggest soccer crowd for the Panthers and we really appreciated the support. It was also Senior Parent Night and we thank the parents for their support and seniors for their determination to get this team into the tournament.
A well deserved day of rest on Thursday, no practice. We begin again on Friday and await our tournament seeding. I believe we will play on Sunday and will post as soon as we know.

Varsity vs Duxbury 10/29/14 Parent Senior Night & Tailgate
The Panthers have a big home game on Senior Parent Night this Wednesday 10/29 @ 6 pm vs Duxbury . The Panthers need a tie or a win to qualify for the tournament and we are expecting a good size crowd. Senior Parents should arrive at the Panther at 5:45 rain or shine. All Seniors will start the game and a ceremonial kickoff will take place so our 2 seniors, Jack Bannon and Jeff Govoni can be in their last Varsity Game of their high school career. Please show up and support the Panthers in their quest for the MIAA State Tournament. All W-H players and their parents are invited to a tailgate party at the concession stand after the game. Please join us for this traditional celebration of our Varsity Program.
Varsity vs Rockland
The Panthers tied Rockland 1-1 at Rockland. The Panthers 2nd game in two days started off with mistakes and turnovers. At the 21st minute, the Panthers went down a goal and couldn't answer it. The 1/2 time talk helped bring reality back and gave the Panthers a wake up call as they needed 2 points to make the tourney with just 1 more game left. The team showed up in the 2nd half with Conor Keane making some big saves to keep us in the game. After puting good pressure on Rockland, the 32nd minute provided the opportunity to even the score. Tom McGahan took a corner kick and Nick Haley headed it home. The Panthers were now putting a lot of pressure on the Rockland defense and almost scored numerous time. Unfortunately time ran out and we had to settle for a tie but gained 1 more point towards the tournament. Next up Duxbury Wednesday night 10/29/14, 6 pm at W-H.

Varsity beat Quincy and set a milestone
Congratulations to the Varsity team as they beat Quincy 4 - 0 under the lights @ W-H on Monday night. The Panthers scored 2 goals in the 1st half, Nick Haley assisted by Brian McGahan and Brian McGahan assited by Tom McGahan. The 2nd half saw Gabe DeOliviera score a penalty kick and a direct kick. Everyone contributed to this victory which was Coach Barrington 200th program win.
A very heartfelt Thank You to all the players for this win and the parents for the support during the game and the Almeida's for the celebration cake after the game. I will not forget this night.

Varsity vs Pembroke
The Varsity lost a tough one to Pembroke Saturday 3 - 1. In the first half, after Pembroke got on the board at the 28th minute, the Panthers kept pressing and Brian McGahan scored at the 39th minute on an assist by Ryan Kelly. Unfortunately we were still celebrating when Pembroke scored in the 40th minute. We played a strong 2nd half and had some opportunities to score but couldn't quite get the job done. Pembroke scored their final goal with 3 minutes left. We did not let up and fought to the end. 5 - 6 - 4 overall. Big week ahead as we push for the tourny.

Varsity Game vs Quincy Postponed
Although the turf look good at 12:15 and again at 3:00, drainage was not working by 4:30. With standing water on 1 end of the field that would have clearly affected play, it was decided to move the game to Monday night. I could not take a chance for injuries to any of the players. We are all frustrated but we must move on and get ready for our next game. Our new schedule is as follows:
10/24 Friday Practice 2 - 4
10/25 Saturday Game at Pembroke 1 pm, bus leaves at 11:45.
Saturday Night High School night at Revs Game, bus leaves W-H @ 4:30, Revs Game 7:30,

Varsity vs Hingham
The Panthers gained another point towards tournament with a 0 - 0 tie against Hingham. The Varsity Team accomplished another milestone against Hingham on Friday. This is the 1st time in history that the Panthers have prevented Hingham from scoring any goals against us during the season!
The Panthers fought hard against a physical Hingham team. Conor Keane was knocked around a few times but bounced back each time. This was an end to end game with both teams having scoring opportunities. Although all continued to play well, I must mention Captain Nate Almeida has been solid as our sweeper, Nick Haley had one of his best games of the season and was a clear threat to Hingham and hit the post with not much time on the clock, and Goalie Conor Keane made a another BIG upper 90 save with not much time on the clock to ensure W-H the tie. This game was a big step forward for the Panthers in their quest for the State Tournament. Keep up the good work!

Community Service Day
We will be posting all of the meeting locations for the various teams sometime tomorrow so be sure to check back. You can plan to be dropped off and picked up in the same location. Here are a few important points:
1) Safety is the most important point. Just like when you were a little kid trick or treating you have to assume all cars don't see you. Do not walk in the street, make sure your entire group is well off the path of cars.
2) Be a positive representation of Whitman Hanson. If people decline politely thank them and say good bye by inviting them to a game.
3) Wear something that represents our school and your teams. Game shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, etc.
4) when people give you footwear, please tie the left and right shoe together so they will be easy to sort later.
5) at least one person in your group should have a trash bag. Pick of trash along your route.
Here is what you should say when you knock on a door:
"Hi, we are student athletes at Whitman Hanson....we are working on a community service project where today more than 400 of use are going through our two towns collecting old and unwanted footwear. We are going to donate some of them to local families in need, some will be sent over seas and others will be recycled. We will take any type of foot wear regardless of condition."
If they say no, you can offer to comeback or you could tell people that they could drop them off at the high school before Wednesday next week.
We will collect from noon- 2:45pm. Captains should meet back at the high school at 3pm in room 159 so we can count. Please bring your trash bags too so we can see which teams collected the most.

We will be celebrating Senior Parent Night on Thursday October 23rd at our home 6:30 Quincy Game.
Coach B will need to know what senior parents will be attending and the names being announced. Check your email.

Varsity vs Hanover
It was a very dissappointing night at W-H as the Panthers lost to Hanover 2 - 1. A sluggish, disinterested, and loss of focus in the 1st half set the tone for a poor performance. Although the 2nd half was an improvement, errors were costly to our effort. The only real highlight was when Gabe DeOliviera scored a goal in the 2nd half to tie the game. As we march towards a possible tournament bid, it is extremely important that we stay focused and not be distracted by our opponent, officials, or people in the stands. We now prepare for Hingham and will take nothing for granted.

The Panthers came prepared for a full out battle against Patriot League foe Silver Lake and came away with a very impressive 0 - 0 tie against the 16th ranked Lakers. The Panthers defense was solid and the offense put plenty of pressure on the Lakers defense. Goalie Conor Keane made some outstanding saves in goal and stopper Jeff Govoni played his best game of the season. This was truly a team effort led by the Captains and Seniors. Every player gave 100% tonight and I am so proud of them for this great accomplishment. Congratulations Panthers!!!!!

Varsity vs Pembroke
The Panthers lost their Home Coming game to Pembroke 4 - 2. We started out strong, scoring in the 1st minute of play with Brian McGahan getting the goal off a Nick Haley assist. Unfortunately we didn't keep momentum going. Fouls in our defensive end were costly as Pembroke rocketed 2 goals into our net before half-time. The second half saw more lapses and Pembroke controlling much of the play. We had trouble completing passes, keeping possession, getting shots on goal, and poor marking. Before we knew it the score was 4 - 1. We did have a spark near the end when Brian McGahan scored his 2nd goal of the game off an assist by David Sanchez. We thought we had "It" with us but we didn't, just went through the motions. Captains and Seniors it's time to step up and lead this team to fulfill our goals and complete our commitment to success.

Varsity vs Plymouth North
A tough night at Plymouth resulted in a 1 - 1 tie. Nick Haley scored for us with an assist to Jared Pendrak. A defensive error allowed Plymouth to tie the game. We had many more chances to score but we were not on target. We also allowed our opponent, ref, and fans to effect our play. Negativity will effect us negatively everytime. I'm asking all fans, as difficult as it may be, to stay positve and encouraging throughout the game. You will make a difference in helping us to acheive our goals!

Varsity vs Scituate
The Varsity Team played a very poor 1st half against Scituate and gave up 2 quick goals in 4 minutes. Teamwork, communication, heart, pride, and determination were all missing in the 1st half.
The second half showed some much needed improvement. At the 12th minute, Nick Haley got the Panthers on the board with a nice shot past the keeper. After giving up another goal, the Panthers continued to fight and at the 25th minute, Tom McGahan sent the ball to David Sanchez who scored the goal. Jack Bannon made some good saves in net. The Panthers are now 3 - 3 - 1 in the Patriot League. They will be in action again on Thursday night here at W-H taking on East Bridgewater at 6:30.

Varsity W-H Panthers vs PS Panthers
The Varsity Team payed tribute to Major Mike Donahue, who graduated from W-H in 1990, prior to tonights game with a moment of silence, arm bands, and 1990 on the scoreboard. The emotion of the start of the game provided added adrenalin for the Panthers who scored in the 2nd minute of the game. Brian McGahan knocked a nice ball into the net after Jared Pendrak sent it into the box. Later in the 1st half Plymouth South tied the game up for a 1 - 1 halftime score. Again the W-H Panthers were determined to get another win as Brian McGahan scored his 2nd goal of the game off an assist by Antonio Centeio. With 13 minutes left in the game, Plymouth South scored after a defense failed to clear the ball out of the penalty box. The W-H Panther next big chance came with 3 minutes left when Brian Barry hit the goal post on a nice shot. The game ended 2 - 2. Thank you to the fans who supported us Friday night.
The Panthers are now 3 - 2 - 1 in the Patriot League Keenan Division.
We will travel to Scituate on Tuesday at 4 for a tough game against Scituate.

We played
strong for 55 minutes before giving up a goal off a corner kick. And in the 37

Again played
well till the 2nd half. The team is working very hard and they
are not giving up..Goal scored by Justin with an assist from Kris
Tuesday
W-H 2, Plymouth North 5
We are starting
out strong, but when we lose our team shape we concede goals. Had a few
injuries against PN but we did not back down. Goals by Justin and Chad, assists from Drew and Conor
Wednesday
W-H 1, Hing 5
Yesterday we faced a very skilled
and tough Hingham team. We came out and outplayed Hingham for the first 32 minutes. Had a 1-0 before giving a goal. The 1st half ended 1-1.
The second half, well that was a different story we conceded 4 goals.
Dick and I are still trying to fit the pieces of the puzzle together. Even though we lost to a very good team, we were impressed with our teams play in the 1st half. It also showed the team that if we play hard for 80 minutes and keep our shape we can play with anybody.
Goal scored by Kris with an assist from Steve Osborne
Chuck Noll once
said "You can't make a great play unless you do it first in practice."

Varsity vs Hingham 9/17
The Panthers stepped up their game tonight and beat Hingham for the very 1st time 1 - 0.
This end to end battle could have gone either way at any point in time but the Panthers fought hard to win this one. With 7 minutes remaining in the game, the ball got passed to Kyle Nehiley on the right side who then sent it across into the penalty box. Brian McGahan was making a nice diagonal run and scored the game winning goal. Moments later, Goal Jack Bannon made a spectacular save to preserve the Panther victory. Sweeper Nate Almeida and the defensive unit kept us in this important Patriot League showdown. Congratulations to every team member for our best performance of the season so far.......

W-H Varsity 3 - 1 Plymouth North
The Panthers evened their record to 2 - 2 in the Patriot League after beating Plymouth North 3 - 1 at our home openner. The Panthers quickly put pressure on the Eagles and controlled play early on. Antonio Centeio put the Panthers on the board with a well placed penalty kick at the 15th minute of the 1st half. After a let up, Plymouth North got on the board off a direct kick from 20 yds away from goal at the 22nd minute. The 2nd half saw the Panthers regroup and returned to pressuring the Eagles defense. The game winning goal came at the 9th minute when Drew Alexopoulos sent a cross into the box and Brian McGahan knocking it in. We continued to press as Nate Almeida sent another cross into the box and Nick Haley scored the goal at the 11th minute. There were a number of other opportunities that the Panthers failed to capitalize on.
The Panthers will be looking to go above .500 this Wednesday night at Home against Hingham. Game time at W-H is 6:30.
Congratulations Jv's on your 7 - 0 win against PN.

Varsity vs Silver Lake 9/11/14
Wow!! What a performance the Panthers put in at Silver Lake. Passing was much sharper, confidence was high, and we truly surprised the Lakers. No one would have expected the game to be 0 - 0 at half time or at the 76th minute. The Lakers scored at the 77th minute after stealing the ball away after a good save by Conor Keane. The goal should not have been allowed. Their final goal was scored with 7 seconds left. I am so proud of how our boys handled themselves. With everything going on in the stands to the speed & intensity of the game, we maintained our cool and fought to the end. We truly played with Pride, Heart, & Determination! Well done Panthers! Can't wait to play them on our home turf on 10/7!
W-H vs Duxbury
The Panthers lost 2 - 0 Tuesday night to Duxbury. After holding the game to 0 - 0 at half time, the Panthers had a 9 minute lapse in focus and gave up 2 goals at the 5th & 13th minute of the 2nd half.
Capt. Nate Almeida and Goalie Conor Keane played well. We learned some things tonight and will play better against S/L on Thursday.

JV Beats Duxbury 1 - 0
Great start to our season beating Duxbury 1 - 0 on their home turf! Goal was scored by Ian Duffey with an assist from Jack Molito, who received a pass from midfielder Ross Bartlett. Defense was anchored by Martin "The General" Kalina, with help from "Iron Mike" Coletti, Tucker Sylvester, and Matt Stearns. Jack Molito and Nate Mains split the shutout, each making saves and controlling the 18.
A special "tip of the cap" to outside mid Matt Secatore for finally activating his GPS and finding his way out of the backwoods of Maine, just in time to join us in our victory at Duxbury......

1st Freshmen game vs N.Quincy Jv's
Congratulations to the Boys Freshmen Soccer Team.
A great start to the 2014 season by defeating the North Quincy JV Raiders 3-2.
A freshmen team is like a puzzle, but the puzzle
started to come together yesterday. About 5 minutes into the game we received a
free kick about 25 yards out. Conan Walls scored with a beautiful shot past the
NQ keeper. A few minutes later Bret Ellis struck a 30 yard shot into the top
ninety of their net. North Quincy scored near the end of the 1st half.
Halfway through the 2nd half there was a collision between Kris Delvalle
and the North keeper, Kris continued to battle and pushed the ball past the
keeper’s hand and then sent a shot into the open net. North Quincy scored later
in the half.
Aiden Levangie and Anthony Pasciuto our keepers
each played a half and did a fine job between the pipes. Jason Bannon and Jayke
Schneider assisted on the goals. Overall as a TEAM you all played
well.
I want to thank the parents for their support, but
I need to remind everyone to please not to coach from the sidelines. The boys
need to listen to what we the coaches are trying to teach them. It gets
confusing when they are getting mixed messages.
Thank You for your consideration in this
matter.
